Block Parties All Five Boroughs

Every block party permitted by the Street Activity Permit Office, citywide
A block party is a street closure that a neighbor asked for. Somebody on the block files with the Street Activity Permit Office, the street comes off the grid for a Saturday, and the block belongs to the people who live on it. This is the whole permitted record since 2013, matched to the actual block that closed, all five boroughs, every community district.

Full street closure
The street is closed to traffic for the length of the block. This is what most people mean by a block party, and it is what the overwhelming majority of these permits are.
Sidewalk and street closure
Both the roadway and the sidewalk in front of it are given over to the event. More common for larger single block festivals.
The block, not the address
Permits are filed against a blockface, a street between two cross streets, not a house number. Every event here is matched to that block, so a block that has thrown a party for twelve straight years reads as one entry with twelve dates behind it.
How to get one
Applications go to the Street Activity Permit Office at the Mayor's Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management. They open in the winter for the following summer and they close early. Your community board is notified and can comment.
