Sources: the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets retail food store license file, downloaded August 2026, and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene farmers market list published on NYC Open Data. Community district is assigned by point in polygon against Department of City Planning district boundaries. A store is counted as a supermarket when it carries a supermarket banner or reports at least 10,000 square feet; pharmacies, dollar stores, delis, bakeries, breweries and wholesalers are excluded. Square footage is self reported to the state and a small number of entries are plainly wrong, which is flagged where it happens. License records lag closings and openings, so confirm before you travel. Market days, hours and EBT acceptance change through the season. The need shading is the Emergency Food Supply Gap, published by NYC Opportunity with the Mayor’s Office of Food Policy, 2025 round, scored 1 to 10 by neighborhood tabulation area, where 10 is the highest unmet need.
