BROOKLYN COMMUNITY BOARD 6
BUSINESS AFFAIRS AND LICENSE COMMITTEE MEETING
January 27, 2025
OPENING REMARKS
The meeting began with an introduction, confirming quorum, and welcoming committee members both in person and via Zoom. A document prepared by the Red Hook Business Alliance was shared, aimed at assisting businesses in preparing for ICE-related incidents and ensuring the safety of workers and customers. This document, created in collaboration with the ACLU, was made available for circulation.
524 COURT STREET — NEW GREEK RESTAURANT (APPLICANT: ANTONIA VITALIUS)
Antonia Vitalius, along with her sister, presented their application for a new on-premise liquor license for a Greek restaurant at the location previously occupied by another business for 16 years. The restaurant will serve Greek cuisine with a family-friendly atmosphere, offering lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. They plan to have 16 seats on a sidewalk cafe, which is currently in the permitting process.
The applicants emphasized their intention to create a neighborhood restaurant with a focus on quality food and reasonable prices. A suggestion was made by the committee to reduce the number of seats to comply with building code regulations. The applicants agreed to review the floor plan and make adjustments as needed.
The applicants outlined their hours of operation, mentioning a proposed closing time around midnight on weekends. They agreed to revise the hours to ensure compliance and will send an updated version via email. The bar program will feature high-end liquors and Greek wines, with a focus on sophisticated cocktails paired with the restaurant's food offerings. The applicants shared their experience in managing a hotel restaurant in Long Island City and explained the reason for staying open later, to provide customers with an alternative to fast food after hours.
A motion to approve the application was made. It was seconded, and all committee members present voted in favor.
