April 15, 2026 @ Principles GI Coffee House

Attendees

Alan Mukamal, Ken Rivera, Jules Block, Scott Middleton, Travis Hunter, Brantley Hawkens, Tony Melone, Brandon West

MINUTES

Follow up on past resolutions and current priorities, with next steps:

Sammy's Law

See how mayor's plan for 15mph near schools is going, then ask for improvements.

Daylighting: email to Derek for followup; need boulders on 4th Ave and other unprotected daylighting zones. Email 311@bkcb6.org.

Reach out to new Office of Curb Management.

9th St

LPI's are missing or too short. Only 20% jersey barriers in area where Sarah Schick was killed. Katie will follow up.

4th Ave needs stop lines — future resolution on camera enforcement.

LTN (Low Traffic Neighborhoods)

Council Member Hanif, Talia from Open Plans. Borough President panel — reach out to BP staff. Find boundaries for pilot program.

Moving parking enforcement to DOT

De Blasio attempted to move School Safety from NYPD to DOE in 2021, was not fully successful. 311 evidence. Get a study or poll done — maybe an organization can do this (Brandon). 5th Ave BID, students (Jules). CrashCount.NYC.

8th Ave — no traffic calming and street treatment

Bus lane? Protected bike lane? Work with GAP redesign? 2 lanes parking, 1 traffic, 1 bikes?

Court St design

Light timing too fast. Elevated crosswalks.

Street Safety Issue Report form

Alan discussed presenting form results at a future CB6 meeting. Looking for a way for people to submit photos.

Parks presentation

Kyle McEneaney on reviving the "Under the Tracks Playground." Kyle provided a memo summarizing his proposal. His recommendations for CB6 included: CB6 should consider a finding that the Site is underutilized at present; CB6 should consider inviting a community engagement process that identifies viable uses for the Site that would better represent the community and public interest, collects community feedback on such potential uses, and presents its findings to CB6 at a later date.
