The meeting began with a presentation from NYCEM on disaster/emergency preparedness, including flooding, extreme heat or cold, and power outages. NYCEM provided resources for both humans and pets, including SMS communication. Aurelia Casey from Gowanus Canal Conservancy followed with a presentation on rain gardens as forms of green infrastructure and how they function and help with stormwater runoff. Sophie Sweeney, Project Manager at NYCDEP’s Green Infrastructure Grant Program presented on green roofs and the grant opportunity DEP has for property owners, condo owners, and renters, including commercial property.
