BROOKLYN COMMUNITY BOARD 6

LANDMARKS/LAND USE/HOUSING COMMITTEE

April 23,2026@ 250 Baltic Street

Attendees:

Dave Briggs Jerry Armer Kathleen Addison Laura Osorio Peter Fleming Daniel Kummer 9 Cheever Place - Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for a 2-story structure in the Cobble Hill Historic District Presented by Ingui Architects. A new two-story building is proposed for the rear yard of 136 Kane Street. The bottom floor will be a garage and the upper floor will be an apartment. The design was modified from the previous presentation, setting the garage further back from the street and moving the stair connecting the two levels to the outside of the building. Extensive discussion with committee and community members: - Can the garage be shifted further east? No, its rear wall abuts the property line. - Is the upstairs unit an ADU? No. - What type of brick will be used? Brick will match brick at the residence on the property. Cornice above the garage door will be corbeled. - Lintel above the garage door will have a brownstone finish. - The architect confirmed that the height of the wall facing Cheever is 8’-6”. The height of the garage is 21’-9”. - Garage door material is wood, painted black. Doors have glass panes at top. - The depth of the garage has been reduced so the front (west) wall could be set back further from the property line along Cheever. - Attendees and others who live on the street and share their comments via email do not support the project. One person expressed frustration that comparing the garage setback to setbacks on Kane was not a fair comparison. A few stated that the historic character of the block would suffer. It was pointed out that there are other setbacks on the street and several residential buildings dating from the 1960s. The neighbor living directly south of the proposed garage location claimed that the garage would block daylight across the street. A shading study or evidence supporting this was not presented. - One community member suggested that the glass panes at the garage doors be replaced with wood. Daniel: Motion to approve as presented. Jerry: Seconded.

Motion passes unanimously.

184 Lincoln Place - Application for a Certificate of Appropriateness for a rooftop addition in the Park Slope Historic District (Extension). The architect started the presentation, but it was lacking several critical pieces of information. Community members attending the meeting expressed their concerns with its visibility. Jerry - Motion to table consideration of the proposal so the architect could further develop the presentation. Daniel - Seconded.

Motion unanimously approved.

End of meeting.
