Happy New Year 2019 2

We hope this email finds you well and serves as a recap of 2019 highlights as we count down the hours remaining in 2019.

We hope this email finds you well and serves as a recap of 2019 highlights as we count down the hours remaining in 2019.

A lot happened in our community in 2019. In Gowanus, we saw a draft zoning framework , plans for public place , new landmarks , the canal cleanup start moving forward while we continue to wait for the DEIS in 2020.

One of our New Year resolutions is to continue to make clear , how important it is that NYCHA has definitive and significant capital improvements while the IBZ be upzoned as a manufacturing zone to offset any losses within the rezoning before moving forward and don’t forget water quality should be in line with present and contemplated uses of the canal.

In 2019 we got a new use for the Degraw Street Firehouse , supported electric car charging stations and the introduction of Congresswoman Velasquez’s helicopter legislation , saw authorization for two-way Verrazzano tolling , cut the ribbon on a park and started the process for a redesign of another .

We also, sadly, lost a former board member and great community leader Alan Fleishman this year . Alan’s dedication to the community is the kind of commitment we’ll need to handle the challenges and opportunities in 2020 and beyond.

Looking ahead to 2020, our first General Board meeting of 2020 will be held at P.S 58 a week from tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8 th , while our first committee meeting takes place a week from yesterday, Monday, January 6 th in the Cobble Hill Community Room at 250 Baltic Street with Permits and Licenses reviewing a sidewalk café application.

Speaking of beyond, we are co-sponsoring, along with with with great organizations such as the Brooklyn Public Library, Citizen Squirrel’s  January 14 th workshop for families with young children.

Finally, from everyone at Brooklyn Community Board 6, have a great and safe New Year!
