I'm pleasantly surprised by the strong positive response to the Orson Welles/Harry Lyme reference i n yesterday's email . So, thank you to everyone who responded. 

COVID-19 is also an attack on our social nature, even in the best of times, staying home can be quite stressful, but it remains necessary. For that reason, especially if you are home alone, the City and State are offering ways to help cope as well as other options listed in the resources section of this message. 

Above all else, unless you have to, please stay home. Those who are working because they must, THANK YOU!

Each day, by varying degrees but relentlessly, brings us worsening statistics that represent the lives of our fellow New Yorkers and Brooklynites of ALL AGES .

People between the age of 18 and 44 account for 44% of all infections, while 34% of those infected are between 45 and 64 years old. The remaining 21 percent of infections are split between 11% of people from the age of 65 to 74, 8% are over 75 years of age, and 2 percent of cases are found in those under 17 years of age

. 

As of now, there are 44,635 confirmed COVID-19 cases in New York State , 25,573 in New York Cit y , and 6,750 in Brooklyn. Yesterday those numbers stood at 37,258 statewide, 21,873 in New York City, and 5,705 in Brooklyn. 

Due to COVID-19, we now mourn the loss of 519 People in New York State, 366 New York City in New York, and 82 fellow Brooklynites. 

Lastly, please voluntarily comply because this " pause " is being enforced. For example, there was a wedding about to take place, yesterday with far too many attendees. When a concerned senior (THANK YOU!) in our community reached out, I was able to coordinate with the 76 th Precinct , led by Inspector O 'Malley, and have the crowd dispersed before all the guests could assemble. This incident was undoubtedly the closest I've ever been or likely will be to "police work." And yes, I feel for the couple but would feel far worse if their happiness turned into tragedy in a few days.
