COVID-19 cases drop here , spike there , and persistent and pernicious symbols of treason fall across the land. I’m not confusing statues and symbols to be anywhere near as important as policy changes, but they are still welcome.

COVID-19 cases drop here , spike there , and persistent and pernicious symbols of treason fall across the land. I’m not confusing statues and symbols to be anywhere near as important as policy changes, but they are still welcome. A collective statement of positive civic values and rejection of a Confederate identity promoting racial supremacy is long overdue. Doubly so when one considers the lack of contrasting symbols reminding us of the horrors of the slavery that the Confederacy wanted to maintain. NASCAR is not my thing, but I do care that this significant cultural institution finally decouples from an emblem of slavery, which has been celebrated under the guise of ”culture.”
