I begin by thanking everyone who took part in last night's “back to school “ town hall. This appreciation applies to the over 500 attendees, Department of Education(DOE) leadership, great friend to CB6, D15 Superintendent Skop Anita Skop, and last but not least, Councilmember Lander and his staff (especially Naomi Dann).

It was a great meeting, and a lot of important questions were asked, and DOE did their best to answer them. However, as is the norm for 2020, and like our EWCDH meeting on Monday, a significant theme of the night was uncertainty. This goes for questions around “blended” learning, remote learning, who’d be teaching under which setting, what new training educators will have, schedules, and of course, safety. With that uncertainty, it’s even more critical that parents of public school students take the ” return to school preference” survey, which is due by August 7th.

If that paragraph doesn’t suffice or if you weren’t there or just want to rewatch the meeting, click here and to see the presentation given by the DOE’s Deputy Chancellor Adrienne Austin, which focused on programming models, click here . As we find out more about what this school year will look like, I’ll keep you posted.

For now, just know I hope you have a good weekend, and please check out the items below, including the Botany Walk and Boathouse. No matter what you decide, do it at a safe distance and wear a mask.

Best,
