Having heard quite a bit from constituents, often in direct response to this email (from drivers and non-drivers alike) asking for greater clarity and longer-term planning for Alternate Side Parking (ASP), we highlighted such concerns to those in charge .  

We know that transportation, and especially parking, is a contentious issue. Still, I think it’s safe to say there is a solid consensus that the streets should be cleaned, and if we’re going to have alternate side regulations, people should have more than a day’s notice.

As our letter states , we’ve asked the administration to develop more precise and consistent criteria for the implementation, or suspension, of Alternate Side Parking regulations to avoid, for example, announcing on a Sunday a change to take effect on Monday. Such an approach, we’d hope, would lead to more drivers parking their cars appropriately and thus accomplish the stated purpose of cleaning the streets instead of perpetuating the sight of street sweepers weaving in and out from the curb, leaving garbage and tickets in their wake,
