Please excuse the lateness, but I’ve learned from Nevada that it’s best to “keep em waiting.” As easy as it is, at least for me, to get wrapped up in absorbing all available absentee ballot info, it’s essential to take a deep breath and remember the earth is still spinning. Not only is it still turning, but COVID-19 is spreading to new highs across the country and is also ticking up here in the city. The 7-day infection rate average is 1.81 and is headed in the wrong direction.  The Mayor, when discussing these numbers, said that “We’ve got to buckle down and push these numbers back.”. 

In this instance, the Mayor is right, and we do need to buckle down, and that means limiting possible exposure to Covid-19. Keeping that in mind, we’ve written to the Mayor and Chancellor asking that the Department of Education not rush parental decision making and so create an additional opt-in period for families to go from Remote to Blended learning in early 2021. As of now, the only enrollment period ends on November 15th. As our letter states, they are forcing families to choose as cases rise creates a situation in which some may want to blend in but are hesitant to take that risk.
