I hope this email finds you well as we continue apace with meetings on this 19th day of November. It was great to “see” so many folks last night at our November board meeting.

I hope this email finds you well as we continue apace with meetings on this 19th day of November. It was great to “see” so many folks last night at our November board meeting. We started things off by hearing from Assembly Robert Carroll and District 15 Schools Superintendent Anita Skop. Superintendent Skop wasn’t originally on the agenda but was gracious enough to adjust her schedule and speak with us after the late announcement that school buildings would be closed starting today. All students will shift to remote learning. School buildings will be closed, at least through the Thanksgiving holiday, so that the earliest they could reopen is November 30th.

We appreciate Anita making time for us as I think it’s safe to say her plate is full with Covid-19 related issues and the education she is charged with providing. She gave encouraging examples of the ongoing work of her administrators, teachers, and staff.

After Anita spoke, we made our way through the agenda. We approved all agenda items. Starting with our board officers (congratulations to each of you), followed by approval of a liquor license application, a landmark item, an assessment of District Needs with recommendations for the city’s budget, and finally 2 Red Hook related transportation items. We also heard from Assemblymember Simon, Senator Kavanagh, and reps from Comptroller Stringers office, Councilman Lander, Senator Myrie and Congresswoman Velasquez. During the meeting, there was also a reminder about tonight’s Zoom based presentation from DCP & HPD on the Public Place/ Gowanus Green presentation. It gets started at 6 PM, and a few hundred folks have already registered for it.
