Last night, as previewed in prior newsletters, our Permits & Licenses committee met and unanimously approved an application for a new on-premises liquor license for 259 4th Avenue. The applicant intends to do business as Whisk & Whiskey, focusing on introducing customers to the transcontinental flavors of Cambodian & Trinidadian baked goods and seasonal cocktails. Big thanks to Glenn Kelly for stepping up and pinch-hitting as chair of the meeting. The application now moves to a full board vote at our January 13th meeting. The Landmarks/Land Use committee meets next Thursday with an agenda that is still in formation.

But turning to a more pressing matter than any item above is the life and death consequences of COVID’s second wave. Positivity rates are above 7% citywide, and more of our fellow New Yorkers are dying every day. I hope in the spirit of the holidays you celebrated at home or rates will continue rising into the New Year. Even as vaccines are being slowly and sporadically distributed, we cannot act like this is over just because we, and this includes me, want it to be.
