I hope this email finds you well in the wake of yesterday’s snow, which has turned into, slush, ice, and the cause of an irritating amount of reflection.

I don’t start drafting these newsletters with the intent or goal of congratulating folks. However, when it’s so clearly deserved like it was last week with DOT Commissioner Gutman, it’s necessary. Today is a day on which two such congratulations are in order. The first is for FDNY’s new Assistant Commissioner for External Affairs, Jason Shelley. He’s been a friend to CB6 for all things FDNY during my tenure, and some may remember from his attendance presentation at a few of our zoom meetings. Our community, FDNY, and the city are lucky to have such a dedicated public servant. 

The second congratulations are for our CB6 member and Landmarks chair, David Briggs. Mr. Briggs was published in Sunday’s NY Times in response to this article about Gowanus and the pending, and currently litigated, Gowanus rezoning.

So big congrats to Jason and David.

I can't even try to compete with such accomplishments so let's move on to my usual recommendations and reminders.
