It seems like there is more and more hope that this summer will be closer to “normal” than last year as the covid infection rate is down to the lowest level (0.93%) of the pandemic. As greater numbers of people are vaccinated, the more likely we'll be permanently able to keep that rate down so, if you haven’t already, click here and find out how to get vaccinated ASAP. 

As mentioned in previous newsletters, last night we had our Landmarks/Land Use meeting, and it was a late one lasting around three and a half hours. After a brief time taken to approve two landmarking items, DCP gave an informational presentation on the proposed Gowanus Rezoning. If you were “there” on zoom, or if you want to rewatch, you can do so here on Youtube and see the presentation here. 

But of course, we’re not done with Gowanus, and we’ve got 4 Gowanus Rezoning/Rezoning Adjacent meetings coming up. I’ll run those down before wishing everyone well for the weekend.

First, as officially announced earlier this week, Thursday, June 3rd, is our joint public hearing with Brooklyn Community Board 2. The hearing will start at 3:30 PM, and people will be able to participate over zoom and in person at Washington Park. For details on how to submit testimony and register, click here. This hearing also has a rain date for the following Thursday, June 10th.

Second, to limit the amount of possible rescheduling and force us to hold a late Friday meeting, the Landmarks/ Land Use Committee will meet on Thursday, June 17th. At the June 17th meeting, it is expected that a motion will be made to approve or disapprove, with various conditions, the Gowanus Rezoning.

The third meeting will be our June 23rd Full Board meeting. During the June 23rd meeting, the anticipated motion from the Land Use Committee will be voted on by the entire board.

Fourth, the day after the June Full Board meeting, on Thursday, June 24th, we'll hold another Landmarks/Land Use meeting with, at this point, at least two ULURP items. One for the Gowanus CSO tank/ salt lot demapping and another for a rezoning of an M2-1 to C4-4A along Third Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets.
