I think it’s safe to say the two most popular, or most mentioned, topics of this newsletter is Covid-19 and everything related to it (especially vaccines) and the Gowanus Rezoning and everything related to it. With that in mind, I’ll start with a friendly reminder to get vaccinated against Covid-19 ASAP. This is a key issue as so much of our city and community is off-limits to those not vaccinated.

Secondly, regarding the Gowanus rezoning, it’s great to see Congresswoman Velasquez and Assemblymember Simon hold a rally and write a letter spurred by Ida's nationwide devastation highlighting concerns about Gowanus's resiliency and infrastructure. Many, but not all, of their concerns, were previewed and overlapped with those contained in our conditional rezoning approval. The main overlaps concern Combined Sewer Overflows(CSO), EPA compliance, stormwater, and the need for the final Environmental Impact Statement to be adjusted and corrected on issues such as sewer capacity. 

Also, as an advisory body, it’s always welcome news when additional elected authorities reference our specific conditions, as with Congressmember Velasquez Simon’s letter to Mayor de Blasio. You can read their letter and our conditional approval side by side by clicking here.
