Earlier today Mayor de Blasio, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the NYC Economic Development Corporation (EDC) unveiled a plan for the future of freight shipping. The “ Delivering Green ” proposal aims to move more goods via boats, trains, and bikes instead of trucks.
As coverage of today’s announcement noted, Red Hook is seeing a major influx of delivery facilities. We’ve pushed to reduce truck traffic and today’s announcement is, potentially, a step in the right direction. Still, it will require more specific and concrete actions to make it a reality headed in the right direction. In that vein, as it’s been a topic at multiple meetings, this Monday, our Economic, Waterfront, Community Development, and Housing Committee will be discussing this issue along with State Senator Jabari Brisport.
On that note, I’ll stop and suggest you keep scrolling, get vaccinated and boosted, stay safe and enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.
