I hope this email finds you well on this cloudy first Tuesday and 5th day of April. I’d like to draw your attention to a popular theme of the New York Government right now. That theme is budgeting.

First, the legislative and executive branches of New York is ironing out the budget for Fiscal Year 2023. It’s technically late, but a stop-gap measure has been passed to hold things in place. While the budget is at issue other matters are expected to be part of any final agreement. Issues like Criminal Justice reform, a possible casino in NYC, and subsidies for a Buffalo Bills football stadium are some of the outstanding items. I’d recommend clicking here and checking out the New York Times overview of where things stand and clicking here for a guide to this opaque Albany tradition.

Secondly, at the City Level, the budget isn’t due until July 1st, but the process is already in motion. The Council released their counter to the Mayor’s preliminary budget, and you can read that here. If reading budget documents makes you want to have a more direct say, then vote in Participatory Budgeting(PB) process. PB will be run through Sunday, April 10th.
