There’s a good chance you’re focused on the unofficial end of summer known as labor day weekend. While summer doesn’t officially end until September 22nd, Monday, September 5th, Labor Day, is an officially recognized federal holiday.

There’s a good chance you’re focused on the unofficial end of summer known as labor day weekend. While summer doesn’t officially end until September 22nd, Monday, September 5th, Labor Day, is an officially recognized federal holiday. Labor day celebrates workers and the labor movement. 

What the labor movement has done, and continues to do, is work to improve the rights and conditions of workers. For example, without the labor movement, Saturday & Sunday would just be two consecutive days, not the “weekend.” In New York, our history, present, and future are inextricably linked to the labor movement. For example, New York City celebrated Labor Day in 1882, 12 years before it became a federal holiday. New York State and New York City have always been among the most unionized cities and states. We may eventually take the top spot back as New Yorkers are now ten times more likely to join a union than the rest of the country. 

On a hyper-local level, our CB6 staff is unionized. With that, I’ll stop and suggest you scroll down and check out the items below my contact information. However, no matter what, whether or not you’re a union member, an unrepresented worker, a freelancer, or even a boss, have a great Labor Day weekend!
