Today, "Thursday the 13th" is not associated with any horror film franchises. However, at least in this newsletter, it's associated with being the day after Brooklyn Community Board 6's first hybrid meeting, which occurred last night.

However, at least in this newsletter, it's associated with being the day after Brooklyn Community Board 6's first hybrid meeting, which occurred last night. It may not be a widely shared position, but community board meetings, among some civic-minded folks, are considered more interesting than any horror film. The synopsis of last night's meeting in the prose below may explain why. 

The in-person portion of the meeting was held at the Van Alen Institute and when attendees arrived they were offered cake. People were overheard saying they liked the cake. The virtual portion was on Zoom. 

Eric Mcclure filled in for Peter Fleming and chaired the meeting. At 6:42 the meeting was called to order and Assemblymember Carroll joined us on Zoom and Council Member (CM) Hanif spoke in person with updates on items such as Participatory Budgeting. I was then given the floor and reported on a few items. The "few" were the Gowanus Task Force, Van Alen Block Party, Park Slope Halloween Parade, Open Meetings, and DEP's October 26th meeting regarding the Gowanus Canal "Owls Head" CSO Facility. 

The CSO facility was also a subject during the next part of the agenda which was reviewing three items from our Landmarks/Land Use Committee. Jerry Armer filled in for David Briggs and presented the committee's recommendations. The first 2 items were applications to LPC at 611 11th Street and 281 Carroll Street. The final item was a resolution regarding the design of the CSO facility seeking to include a launch site for recreation boating on the Gowanus, as well as a comfort station and community room similar to the one in Carroll Park. All three items were overwhelmingly approved. 

We also heard from representatives of additional electeds, and CM Restler joined the zoom. The meeting was adjourned at 7:54. 

We'll smooth out some hybrid issues, and hopefully, hybrid meetings will be our meeting format going forward. I'll stop here and hope you now understand my preference for CB meetings over horror films. Last but not least, I'd like to thank Van Alen Institute for being such a welcoming host.
