We start this weekend on Veterans Day with wind, rain, and appreciation for all who served. This follows a week that saw a midterm election for federal & state offices as well as our November board meeting. It was a civic contrast between the macro & micro varieties.

The macro side of that equation isn’t complete as federal tabulations (which party controls Congress) are still to be determined. However, here in New York, we generally know where the election leaves us. In CB6-specific terms, Assemblymembers Carroll, Mitaynes, and Simon won, as did State Senators Gounardes and Myrie; Dan Goldman was elected to the House of Representatives. On the statewide scale Comptroller Dinapoli, Attorney General Tish James, and Governor Hochul (who became the first woman to be elected Governor of New York State) retained their offices. Also last but not least, CB6 resident Chuck Schumer was re-elected to the United State Senate.

Moving to the micro, there's nothing left to be tabulated from Wednesday’s full board meeting. It was held at the Van Alen Institute and over Zoom. All items up for a vote, five liquor licenses, and a budget overview were approved. Assemblymember Simon joined us via Zoom, as did Senator Gounardes and Representative-elect Dan Goldman. Ben Margolis, formerly of SWBDIC, announced that applications to be part of the Gowanus Oversight Task Force are now open and will close on November 30th. Last but not least, the nominations for CB6 officers were closed. All offices had nominations but no challenges. That means, beginning January 1st, 2023, Jerry Armer will be board secretary, Rebecca Kobert will serve as Treasurer, Karen Broughton as 2nd the Vice Chair, Angelica Ramdhari as 1st Vice Chair, and our new chair will be Eric McClure.
