The week went well in CB6 as Rebecca Kobert joined our staff as Land Use Coordinator. We had other excellent applicants for the role.

The week went well in CB6 as Rebecca Kobert joined our staff as Land Use Coordinator. We had other excellent applicants for the role. Still, I feel, and others who have met with her have agreed, that Rebecca’s experience with CB6 and her familiarity with land use policy make her perfect for the role. While we know CB6 is already the happiest district in the city, adding Rebecca to the staff makes me hopeful that the district could end up even happier. 

Outside of CB6, things are looking far less happy and hopeful, thanks to Governor Hochul. If it’s unclear, I’m referring to the 11th-hour “postponement” of congestion pricing(CP), which we and all elected officials overlapping with CB6 have supported for years. The way this was done (video fiat?) is the type of thing that, even among those who oppose CP, can make one lose faith in the government’s ability to do anything. I don’t think anyone is certain of what will happen, but Hellgate and Streetsblog have good overviews of where we stand, including ways to take action and have your voice heard. 

Lastly, a reminder that our June Full Board meeting is this Wednesday, June 12th, at 6:30 PM, and the in-person portion will NOT BE AT THE VAN ALEN INSTITUTE. So, for the first time since the pandemic, the in-person option will be at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital at 506 6th St, while the virtual option is, as always, over Zoom.
