About This District

Manhattan Community District 1

Manhattan Community District 1 encompasses TriBeCa, Financial District, Civic Center, Battery Park City, South Street Seaport, part of Chinatown, Battery Park, City Hall Park, Governors Island, Ellis Island, and Liberty Island. Covering 1.5 square miles and home to roughly 64,000 residents, it covers Lower Manhattan, where government, finance, tourism, residential growth, and waterfront infrastructure overlap.

The district includes Tribeca, the Financial District, Civic Center, Battery Park City, the South Street Seaport, part of Chinatown, and several harbor islands. It is small in land area but citywide in importance, with daily issues that range from schools and housing to security, resiliency, transportation, and public space.
