Demographics
In 2023, Lower East Side/Chinatown was the city’s 29th largest neighborhood by population out of 59 neighborhoods. Among the 59 districts, it has the 37th largest proportion of nonwhite population, the 45th highest median income, and the 50th most expensive rents. From 2010 to 2024, the district added 5,556 new housing units, 3,740 units of which were market rate and 1,816 units of which were income restricted.
