Middle Housing Still Missing

Building on Middle Housing Gone Missing by Rebecca J. Kobert · Pratt Institute, M.S. Urban and Community Planning · May 2025

Rebecca Kobert wrote Middle Housing Gone Missing as her master’s thesis at Pratt Institute while working as the Land Use Director for Brooklyn Community Board 6. It studies how zoning and preservation in Brooklyn Community District 6 shaped housing supply from 2003 to 2024, and how the district loses homes when rowhouses with several apartments are consolidated into fewer, larger ones.

Here we try to build on that work through interactive means, from a district, borough and citywide scope, as the loss of units by conversion is still an issue.
