I hope this email finds you well on this 2nd Thursday of November, which means that in 2 weeks it will be Thanksgiving. But before that, let’s recap last night's board meeting.

I hope this email finds you well on this 2nd Thursday of November, which means that in 2 weeks it will be Thanksgiving. But before that, let’s recap last night's board meeting. 

October’s agenda was   “unique” , but November’s was more traditional in that we heard from the usual suspects. 

The usual suspects being committees that have a responsibility to report to agencies such as the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) and the State Liquor Authority (SLA). Those committees are Landmarks/ Land Use & Permits & Licenses. The meeting still had the unique quality of being chaired by our Vice-Chair, Eric McClure, who most ably filled in for our Chair Peter Fleming who had long-standing plans that prevented him from attending. During Eric’s quick report he reminded everyone to complete the  MTA’s Brooklyn Bus Survey .

Speaking of board officer excellence, all 5 of our officers were re-elected to a second one year term last night. Congratulations to Chair Peter Fleming, Vice Chair Eric McClure, 2nd Vice-Chair Jerry Armer, Secretary Karen Broughton, and Treasurer Tom Miskel.

Another semi-unique aspect was that we moved the community session to the start of the agenda as we promised to do. We heard from community members regarding the  6 th  Avenue/ Northern slope construction problem s , the importance of  accessibility in transportatio n ,  and   Census 2020  from our very own Jason Resichel.

Now, getting back the traditional agenda, our Landmarks Committee, chaired by David Briggs, had two motions from one application for a   Certificate of Appropriateness  at  633 2nd Street  located in the   Park Slope Historic District . We voted to   conditionally, approve both motions .

The next committee presentation was from Permits and Licenses, chaired by Rachel Freeman, with requests for five new on-premises liquor licenses from across our district, which were all unanimously approved.

One of the   approved applications  was advanced by a  Michelin Star Chef, Daniel Eddy , who plans to open a Bakery/Restaurant / Bar at  367 7th Avenue , where Hugo and Sons used to be. Also in Park Slope, on the border of Gowanus, at  548 4th Avenue, a Southern Italian restaurant  that plans to open in January. The other three applications were in the western part of our district. One was for a  small pizzeria in Carroll Gardens at 387 Court Street  and the other 2 in Red Hook- a  T hai restaurant at 380 Van Brunt Street   and at 34 Van Dyke, in the old Rocky Sullivan’s location,  t here wil l be an event/catering hall .

When the voting agenda was concluded, we heard from Representatives from elected official offices. Nicole Hunt spoke for Councilman Levin and reminded folks that  “Code Blue,"  was in effect. Oscar Jonas represented Senator Montgomery and highlighted that her   K inship legislation had been signed into law   while Jonathan Timm represented Senator Myrie and discussed discussed the work  Senator Myrie is doing to ban certain police practices .

Last, but not least, Dan Wiley spoke for Congresswoman Velasquez confirmed that he would be at our  Transportation / Public Safety Committee meeting  next week to discuss  federal helicopter legislation .

During new business Glenn Kelly let folks know that former BKCB6 Vice-chair Lou Sones says hello, Kathy Park Price announced  Citizen Squirrel   is holding an event on January 14th and our chair for the evening, let folks know he’s a METS fan and that Jacob deGrom had just been named  NL Cy Young winner for the second consecutive year . On that positive note The meeting was adjourned at 7:40.

Our next general board meeting is December 11th, 6:30 PM.

If last night, or reading about it wasn’t enough civic engagement for you, tonight at 6 PM,  The   Red Hook Community Justice Center has a grant information session  for artists and organizers, at 7 PM , 78, 8 th  Avenue, the   78th   Precinct hosts a Build the Block meeting   and  The   Old Stone House , from 8:00 until 10:00 pm, will be the place for  an   ecological concert .
