I hope this email finds you well on this warm 26th day of November. While this week is shortened by a holiday famous for forgivable gluttony, our community remains a civic cornucopia stuffed with meetings and other such happenings.

I hope this email finds you well on this warm 26th day of November.  While this week is shortened by a holiday famous for forgivable gluttony, our community remains a civic cornucopia stuffed with meetings and other such happenings.

Tonight,  Tuesday, November 26th, the  Cobble Hill   Association will host its annual fall meeting  in the Episcopal  Chu rch at 326 Clinton Street  from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and, over at the  Grand Army   Plaza Library , a  Census 2020   "Teach-In"  will be held from 6:00 until 7:30 PM. 

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 27th , is known as “Thanksgiving Eve” or other non-complimentary titles : none of which have anything to do with civic activity. Either way, it’s a “ Gridlock Alert day ” as millions of people move to and fro to spend time with family for Thanksgiving.

On Thanksgiving itself, Thursday, November 27th , one thing people may be thankful for is Alternate Side Parking(ASP) and meters being suspended. If you aren’t eating home, or at someone else’s home, plenty of CB6 restaurants will be open, including 4 of the spots highlighted by BKLYNER .

Don’t let thankfulness turn into regret and remember that, mashed up against Thursday, on Friday, November 29th , ASP & parking meters are back in effect.

While Friday is “Black Friday,” a day famous for shoppers risking danger to get deals,  Saturday, November 30th is “Small Business Saturday.” . The City’s Small Business Services Commissioner, Greg Bishop, has some suggestions, along with shopping locally, for how you can help such business es. One way to get in the spirit of shopping local, right here in our district on Saturday, is by attending the  5th Avenue BID's   tree lighting  , from 4 until 6 PM, at  5th Avenue and 4th Street.

In addition to such commerce, retaining & growing local jobs is why we  continue to emphasize  the importance of the Industrial Business Zone ( IBZ ) in the pending rezoning of Gowanus. It’s also why I consistently mention our most recent letter to the Department of City Planning.

Speaking of Gowanus, please don’t forget that next week, on  Monday, December 2nd  , 6:30 PM, at    P.S 32 , the Department of City Planning (DCP) and Housing, Preservation, and Development (HPD), will be presenting an  update on the Public Place  /  Gowanus Green   site to our  Economic /Waterfront/ Community Development & Housing Committee  . If Gowanus interests you, we hope you can attend. 

On Tuesday, December 3rd , there will be a Red Hook Farms meeting at the Miccio Center from 6 until 8 PM, and during the afternoon of Thursday, December 5th Comptroller Stringer will be hosting a Senior Town Hall at   NYP Brooklyn Methodist .

Lastly, m ark your calendar now for our last General Board meeting of the year, which will be on Wednesday,  December 11th , we will hold our  December General Board Meeting  at the  Cobble Hill Health Center  beginning at 6:30 PM and featuring votes on things such as a Gin Distillery in Gowanus and Congresswoman Velasquez’s helicopter bill .

As I say every weekday, we’re lucky to have such an active community, and there is a chance I’ve missed something. If there is an event or something community-centric happening that you think I/others should know about,  please let me know .
