I hope this email finds you well after a restful weekend, a weekend that included a grand celebration of the Gowanus Dredgers 20 th anniversary. This week, despite being truncated by Thanksgiving, has a lot going on.

Tonight,  Monday, November 25 th,  our  Permits &   Licenses Committee  meets in the Community Room at  250 Baltic   Street to review applications for three liquor licenses and one sidewalk café. Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 26 th ,  the  Cobble Hill   Association will host its annual fall meeting  in the Episcopal  C hurch at 326 Clinton Street  from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM and, on the same night, at the  Grand Army   Plaza Library , a  Census 2020   "Teach-In"  will be held from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.  Wednesday, November 27 th , “Thanksgiving Eve” will remain associated with traffic and bars rather than civic involvement.  Thursday, November 28 th,  is, of course, Thanksgiving, and you should know  Alternate Side Parking and   Meters will be suspended  but back in effect on  Friday, November 29 th . I emphasize that because, historically,  a lot of folks don’t seem to realize this , and more parking tickets are written than any other day of the year.

While Friday is “Black Friday,” which is, of course, famous for shoppers risking danger to get deals, Saturday, November 30 th is “Small Business Saturday.” Small (mom and pop), business’s help, and bind a community together making it the great place it is. One way to go local is by attending the 5th Avenue Bid’s tree lighting on Saturday, from 4 until 6 PM, on 5th Avenue and 4th Street.  In addition to such commerce, retaining & growing local jobs is why we continue emphasizing the importance of the Industrial Business Zone( IBZ ) in the pending rezoning of Gowanus.

Speaking of Gowanus, please don’t forget that one week from today, on Monday, December 2 nd   at    P.S 32 , the Department of City Planning (DCP) and Housing, Preservation, and Development (HPD), will be presenting an  update on the Public Place  /  Gowanus Green   site to our  Economic /Waterfront/ Community Development & Housing Committee  . If Gowanus interests you, we hope you can attend. Later next week, on  Thursday, December 5 th   NYC Comptroller Stringer hosts a Seniors Town Hall   at   NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital   while the next week, on Wednesday,  December 11 th , we will hold our  December General Board Meeting  at the  Cobble Hill Health Center  beginning at 6:30 PM.

As I say every day, we are lucky to have such an active community, and there is a chance I’ve missed something. If there is an event or something community-centric happening that you think I/others should know about,  please let me know .
