Pause to flatten

I hope this update finds you well and safely isolated during the first day of what is likely to be a prolonged “pause.” It’s our nature to avoid isolation. Isolation is depressing, but it’s nonetheless, what’s necessary to “Flatten the Curve.”

As of this email, there are 20,875 confirmed cases in New York State, 12,339 in New York City, and 3,94 cases in Brooklyn . 157 People have died in the state, 99 people have died in New York City. All authorities indicate that those numbers are going to keep increasing, and the only way to make it more manageable by staying home if you’re not needed on the front lines of this fight.

For those that can’t stay home and are needed, I think it’s safe to say that everyone appreciates and owes a debt of gratitude to you for going out and doing your jobs so that others can be safe, fed, and have garbage not stack up to the sky. The same goes for teachers who are adjusting on the fly and doing their absolute best to provide remote learning options for the biggest public school system in the country. Speaking of schools, please remember that "grab and go" meals are available, and that 3 meals can be picked up at once. 

There aren’t a ton of options when the main thing you can do to help is staying home, but if you can, look for ways to support local businesses. That can include ordering delivery or pick up from a restaurant or liquor store , but that can also include something as simple as letting people know, via email or social media , that a business is open and looking to deliver food and/or beverages. We have a district of over 100 thousand , but the community is, I know it sounds corny, closer than that may imply.
