COVID Context, Resources & More

Yesterday's update or, to borrow a description from GBD, "Broadsheet" , focused on telling people to fill out the census, and provided COVID-19 statistics along with small business issues.

Again today, we'll emphasize that, if you are fortunate enough to afford it, support small businesses. These businesses are featured in the maps listed below and offer delivery and pick up options. The COVID-19 statics are listed here and below but with some additional context for how this is being felt across the 5 boroughs.

Regarding the census, I had an opportunity to speak with the director of external affairs for " NYC Census 2020 " , Jason Reischel, who shared that in the 2 weeks since the census forms have been sent out 29.4% of Brooklynites have responded, 31.2 percent of New York City has responded while the nation has responded at a rate of 43.1%

Of course, we have been dealing with a crisis, which makes it harder to think about responding, but it is one of those things that can be done entirely from home , and it only takes a few minutes. Clearly, we need more resources from the federal government, and being fully counted will put us in a position to get a fairer share. I'd hope there is never such a crisis again, but the 10 minutes you take to respond now may save the lives of some of your fellow New Yorkers during the next 10 years. Sparing 10 minutes for a better 10 years seems like an excellent use of time.

We are still ironing out some of the details, but we are working on a virtual community check-in on Tuesday night, beginning at 6:30 PM. Once the specific link and other info are confirmed, you'll hear about it from me.

COVID-19 doesn't discriminate. So, please, unless you are needed on the front lines, STAY HOME. If you are among those keeping society intact, THANK YOU .

Feel free to share this information ; however, you'd like and stay safe.

Best,
