I never cared for "April Fools," but I'd happily trade the COVID-19 crisis for a situation in which people could go out and about without the worry that we're all experiencing right now. Speaking of being "out and about," as per the Governor's announcement earlier, New York City playgrounds will be closed while parks and open spaces will remain open.

Today is " Census Day ," and despite it being April 1 st, it's no fooling matter. The census determines a lot about what resources New York State will receive over the next 10 years. The closer we are to having everyone in New York counted means more federal aid for things like healthcare, public transportation, housing, and more representation in congress.

Federal aid is always important, but the COVID19 crisis, and the extended impact it's expected to have, show getting what we need from the federal government is as important as it's ever been. Fortunately, the census can be completed online in under 10 minutes.  

After you are done taking the census, you will still have time if you are fortunate enough to be able to afford it, to support local business. With that in mind, tonight, the Fifth Avenue BID (#theother5th) has repurposed their "Taste of Fifth" event to #Atasteoffifthtakeout , which offers the possibility to not only get great food delivered but a chance to win a 50 dollar gift certificate.
