I had to double-check that it's Thursday as, like when Bob Dylan mixed Texas Medicine and Railroad Gin , I have no sense of time. I mention that as I mistakenly labeled yesterday as Tuesday while it wasn't Tuesday redux, but was most certainly Wednesday. 

Speaking of time, as I assume you've noticed, every evening at 7:00 PM , cheering breaks out, in a bit of cathartic appreciation for those who can't shelter at home and continue to keep us going as a city. Each person cheering has their unique bit of appreciation, but I know it encompasses so many walks of life and is so earnest that even a curmudgeon such as myself can start to think the glass is half full. 

Based on my conversations, people are cheering for , nurses, orderlies, doctors, pharmacists, E.M.T.s, grocery clerks, teachers, delivery people, restaurant workers, NYPD, FDNY, and DSNY. I'm sure there are other things people are cheering for, and each cheer is unique and uplifting across our community. People have been recording these cheers and simultaneously posting and sharing on social media. If you do that and want it to be shared, "tag" CB6 ( Facebook , Twitter , Instagram ), and I'll be sure to share it (with appropriate attribution, of course).

As far as the purpose of sheltering and social distance, and mask-wearing, we see its efficacy in a "flattening" of COVID-19 hospitalizations . At the same time, the death toll, sadly, continues to climb and break another daily record, with 799 New York State residents passing away over the last day. Assemblyman Ortiz mentioned on our check-in the need for funds for burials and also among our critical workers, funeral directors tell of refrigerated trucks stacking up on Hart Island . These divergent trendlines and statistics highlight why complying with public health guidelines are so important as doing so will literally save lives.
