I hope this message finds you well and safe, and to those celebrating Passover , I say, “Chag sameach.”

I’d like to start by thanking the over 100 people who joined last night’s community check-in and to all our panelists. You can click here to relive the magic or see it for the first time via YouTube . 

Before going forward I’d like to reiterate a point that I made at the beginning of last night’s check-in, that as a lot of people flock to the great and less dense neighborhood of Red Hook to exercise and walk around, it is important to maintain a safe distance from each other, wear masks, and if the path ahead is crowding explore a different route. I hear that the Brooklyn Greenway’s path is often getting too congested to maintain proper distancing. Also, now that dog runs are closed, please be extra mindful of cleaning up after your dog. 

The reason for this “PAUSE,” lest anyone forget, is that we are in the middle of a crisis that doesn’t discriminate and, for the second straight day has, with a total of 779 deaths , sadly, seen New York State set a new mark for single day COVID-19 deaths. Again I don’t think it can be expected to cause much immediate comfort, but there is hope that New York is reaching a plateau as hospitalizations are falling and the curve flattens. 

We have seen the unsafe conditions imposed on the voters of Wisconsin ; fortunately, Governor Cuomo will not disenfranchise New Yorkers, and he has announced that we will have the option to vote by mail for the June 23rd primary election. I will keep you posted when we know the mechanism for that.

Of course, we don’t know when this will end, so please keep staying home, and when you are home, if you can, support local businesses. For example, you can enter the Gowanus Dredgers latest raffle or refer to the list of what’s open on 7th Avenue in Park Slope.
