While the discussion shifts towards reopening, today is a reminder of not only what we’re going through but why we should not rush and risk a second wave. As another Brooklynite made clear today, rushing to ”reopen” would risk needless suffering and death . Also, I’m not citing any scientific polling, but it doesn't take a clairvoyant to know we don't want to reopen only to shut down again. So continue to keep your distance and cover your face when you can’t.

Staying “closed” comes at a cost, and we need policies to offset that cost and achieve what could be called “release velocity” for the economy when we do open up. Some of that will have to come as federal aid , but the state and city are looking at what options they have.

One option we all have this year is voting by mail . The same goes for the census, which can be completed right here in under 10 minutes.

Voting, and completing the census, are among the most efficient ways to improve society and we can do both while staying at home. So, if you haven’t yet filled out the census or registered to vote by mail , the time is now. If you already have, maybe remind a friend to do so.
