I won't offer any premature congratulations to anyone regarding yesterday's primary election as a record number of mail-in ballots are to be counted. Of course, as seems to be the case every time we try to have an election, the Board of Election definitively lost . I heard from many constituents about problems and inconsistencies in policies across the district.

Such a pattern deserves to be fixed through systemic reforms, and also, let's face it, a state that will allocate the proper amounts of resources to run elections. This is never good but especially problematic at a time when we need safety to be paramount and have a presidential election this year, yesterday's problems aren't going to go away unless we find a way because general elections have far higher turnout and ultimate consequences.

For all my negativity, while personally pleased with some results so far, I take solace and look to a former New York Governor, Al Smith , who said All "the ills of democracy can be cured by more democracy."
