I hope this email finds you well as we kick off July and the city’s fiscal year. I’d say “Happy Fiscal New Year” if the budget’s themes were anything more than painful cuts and shifts that, in some cases, were just cosmetic reforms.

However, even within such a bad budget , there are bright spots such as reallocating close to 600 million dollars into the NYCHA and summer youth programming funding for which we at Community Board 6 have repeatedly advocated as paramount needs for our community.

Even though the COVID curve has flattened here, we'll still need significant assistance from either or both the federal and state governments in your order to avoid worse cuts that are looming down the road. Our budget and economy don’t exist in a vacuum, and for the fourth time in a week, the United States posted new single-day Covid-19 case records. So let that serve as a reminder to cover your face and keep a safe distance.

At this point, I wish the City never announced any changes to Alternate Side Parking(ASP) . Based on anecdotal reports I'm getting, it’s creating more confusion than relief. So I’ll try to clarify again - on a residential block with only 1 day listed on the ASP signs on that side of the street that’s the day that side of the road will be swept, AKA NO CHANGES. However, if there are 2 or 3, ASP days listed for one side of the street, it will ONLY be cleaned on the last day listed. So, for example, if the signs on one side of the block list “Tuesday and Friday” as ASP and the other side lists “Monday and Wednesday, “ the street will be swept once on Wednesday and once on Friday. There are no changes to non -residential areas. I’ve fielded quite a few inquiries on this, but if you have any questions about ASP, I’ll get the answer for you ASAP.
