I hope this email finds you well in the face of Covid-19 infection records that are being set across the country. Here in New York, even though we have the audacity to do testing, we've been keeping the curve nice and flat by keeping our distance and covering our faces. As we close out phase 3 of our "reopening" this weekend, don't stop what's gotten us here, no matter how young, healthy or invincible you think you are.

Before recommending you check some of the items below my signature, I want to make a few points of clarification regarding announcements made by officials above me in the hierarchy of government as set forth in the city charter and state constitution.

First, our Governor said that there will no longer be walk-up bar service and that people can only order alcohol with food. If you're thinking, "well, not all bars have food," you should be ready for food items, such as chips that may cost as little as 5 cents a bag—to a required part of your order. Also, as there was some justified confusion over this, cocktails to-go will still be allowed . One opportunity to make this become a non-issue would be the passage of Assemblymember Carroll's bill, which would legalize open containers and drinking in public for the duration of the pandemic.

Second, also on the topic of drinking and eating outside the home, the Mayor announced that the Open Streets & Open Restaurants initiative would be extended through October 31st along with 40 more streets being added to this program . In our community, it includes Fifth Avenue from President Street to 3rd Street and, also, on 5th Avenue from 10th Street to 13th Street as organized by the Park Slope 5th Ave BID.

Speaking of the 5th Avenue BID, they, along with many other organizations, will be part of Monday night's Economic Development Committee meeting . Speaking of Monday, Alternate Side Parking regulations will also be resuming .

I'll once again try to clarify the cryptic announcements regarding the resumption of Alternate Side Parking(ASP) regulations. On a residential block with only 1 day listed on the ASP signs on that side of the Street, that's the day that side of the road will be swept, A/K/A NO CHANGES . However, if there are 2 or 3, ASP days listed for one side of the Street, it will ONLY be cleaned on the last day listed. So, for example, if the signs on one side of the block list "Tuesday and Friday" as ASP and the other side lists "Monday and Wednesday, "one side of the Street will be swept once on Wednesday and the other side on Friday. There are no changes to non -residential areas .
