I’d like to begin by thanking Assemblymember Simon for co-hosting a roundtable event with United States Senator and CB6 resident, Chuck Schumer. It was a small group, as it has to be, but it was none the less great to hear and so many active, civically engaged voices coming out of familiar faces. They included our own Eric McClure, NYCHA Gowanus Tennant Association President Ed Tyree, Joe Rydell of the Park Slope Civic Council, among others. Everyone was masked and remains somewhat hopeful that Senator Schumer and his colleagues will push the senate majority to pass necessary aid to cities and states. 

Speaking of civic leaders, CB6 member, and 572 Warren Street resident, Joe Anne Brown, is why a young man survived a horrible fire yesterday. FDNY didn’t know that there was a young nonverbal man with special needs in danger until Joe Anne alerted them to this young man, and they turned back and rescued him. We are fortunate to have such engagement and heroism that makes you feel a little bit better about humans. So a big thank you to Joe Anne and the FDNY. 

Speaking of thanks, as I mentioned on Friday, our community mourns the loss of Salvatore ”Buddy " Scotto, who passed away at 91 years of age. Mayor de Blasio discussed Buddy's contribution to our district and the city in his press conference today. For those that want to join in remembering him, a Memorial Mass in tribute to Salvatore "Buddy" Scotto will be held in Carroll Gardens on Saturday, November 7th at Noon at Sacred Hearts - St. Stephen Church, 125 Summit Street.
