As always, I hope this email finds you well, and thank you to everyone who caught my incorrect use of “tail” in the “tale of two cities.” Before going any further, I‘d like to thank the Warren Street tenant association for having me oversee the nominations for their elections last night, and I look forward to the candidate forum next Wednesday.
First, as I’m sure many of you have heard, the Mayor has decided to delay in school learning for over 90% of public school students, which was supposed to begin this coming Monday. While this seems to be the correct decision, it should’ve been made, at the very least, weeks ago. It’s another example of the administration insisting something isn’t happening until the last second and forcing over a million people to turn on a dime.
Since the spring, we’ve been making the case that school buildings shouldn’t be open for in-person learning until every safety precaution is in place. But regardless of what one thinks our position on school reopening, I can’t imagine anyone thinks plans should be announced abruptly via a press conference with no warnings to anyone, as far as I know, outside of the Tweed Courthouse or City Hall. As Assemblymember Simon noted, this will increase “massive confusion” and not only does it not help, it will “disadvantage those intended to help the most more acutely.
There is more information on this below my email signature, so I won’t keep ranting, but I recommend checking it out. No matter what you choose, enjoy the rest of your Thursday.
