I hope this email finds you well. I also hope the in-person learning for 3k, Pre- K, and District 75 students, teachers, staff, and parents goes safely and smoothly. The same hope extends to everyone learning remotely and for everyone kicking off 5781.

It’s the last day of summer and the first day of school for some, but since Friday, it's certainly felt like more of the same chaos and crisis that has come to define 2020. I'm referring to the passing of Brooklyn’s own Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. 

I don't know of a more significant gap on the scale of binding power than that between a Community Board to the Supreme Court. However, none of our institutions exist in a vacuum, and if you want to effect change, or even to maintain the status quo, you have to use every lever of power you have at hand. For most of us, the easiest and most direct way to do that is register to vote, or register someone else to vote even if that is a friend or relative in another state. Another simple way is to fill out the census or help someone fill out the census or become a poll worker for the upcoming election. You may also reach out to CB6 resident and the United States Senator Schumer and let his office know what you think should be done regarding the court's vacancy since he says everything is on the table.
