I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the final 48 hours of September. I have a few quick items I want to touch on.

First, some of the one hundred thousand or so prospective voters who were given mislabeled ballots in our perpetually failing electoral system.have reached out to ask what to do. NYC Board of Elections Executive Director Michael Ryan has announced that all voters who experienced this issue will be sent a new ballot with a letter from the BOE describing the problem. However, to be safe, you can also reach out to the NYC Board of Elections by calling  1-866-VOTE-NY or sending an email to  Apply4Absentee@boe.nyc. This massive "software" error in the final weeks of a crucial election in a turbulent era is unfathomable and unforgivable but somehow unsurprising when it comes to the Board of Election. This goes hand-in-hand with tabulation delays and misplaced tablets.

Second, I hope everyone who was part of in-person learning had a good day and that we continue to stay safe. The citywide testing rate has been low enough, but yesterday it was above 3%, and if that is the case for seven days, the school buildings automatically close. So please, keep your distance and cover your face if not for yourself for others.

Third, while it hasn’t been picked up by any news sources yet, Deputy Mayor Vicki Been referred to the coming certification of a Gowanus rezoning in early 2021 at a City & State conference this afternoon. On the heels of that news, I want to let everyone know that we’re already in discussions to have pre-certification meetings held in accordance with our long standing demands. Of course, pre-certification meetings are positive and will help our community understand what’s in the pending plan. Ultimately, the content of those plans will be subject to a formal review process. The Deputy Mayor also indicated that there are other actions for review forthcoming.
