I hope this email finds you well this Wednesday as we work to avert a second wave of COVID infections. 

To that end, the city is set to begin enforcing a series of state-mandated zoned shutdowns of businesses and schools in various “hot spots” in Brooklyn and Queens. As in the spring, the Governor felt it necessary to overrule the city, initially reject the city’s plan and followed it up by offering similarly confusing, arbitrary, and vague plans. 

Maybe by the time you read this, the zones will have been clarified, but the state's guidance are maps that don’t follow the street grid and that slice blocks into chunks without providing searchable tools. Click here to see Brooklyn’s map. 

The latest I had heard is that city is developing a site where you can plug in your address and find out what zone you’re in, but it’s not up yet. As Chalkbeat New York’s Alex Zimmerman pointed out this afternoon, some principals can't tell parents whether their buildings will be open tomorrow. I know from my personal life, teachers, administrators, school staff, parents, and, most importantly, students have to readjust for remote learning the fly, but had the administration listened to teachers in the first place, they would have been properly grounded.

Anyway, I digress to remind you that we have our October General Board Meeting one-week from tonight, fill out the census and make sure you are registered to vote. As usual, there is more to note and possibly attend, such as tonight’s 76th Precinct Community Council meeting chaired by our very own Jerry Armer, listed below my email signature.
