I start today with another CB6 "spoiler." Last night, as previewed in prior newsletters, our Transportation & Public Safety Committee met. During the Public Safety portion of the committee meeting agenda, the new Commanding Officer at the 76th Precinct, Vitaliy Zelikov, introduced himself to the committee and "attended" the rest of the meeting.

The transportation portion consisted of an informational presentation and a vote on a resolution from Resilient Red Hook, asking for Van Brunt Street to be removed as a truck route. The committee approved it unanimously with a motion with the amendment that alternative options allow such trucks to drive through the container port to lessen truck traffic on Van Brunt.

This resolution, the liquor license application approved on Tuesday, and the landmarks application from 2 weeks ago, will now move to a full board vote at our November 18th meeting. If you want to relive the magic, you can watch last nights and all our committee meetings from the week on YouTube.

With tomorrow being Halloween, a day when our President makes an exception and joins the rest of us in unequivocally supporting mask-wearing, it's important to note that the other day's matter as COVID-19 numbers are headed in the wrong direction. So, even if you've never worn a mask on Halloween, make sure tomorrow is the first time you do. When wearing the mask, still keep your distance, and maintain all safety protocols.
