I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and started the holiday season on a positive Covid negative note. As COVID-19 numbers rise, we aren't out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and started the holiday season on a positive Covid negative note. As COVID-19 numbers rise, we aren't out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, we can expect, after the traveling people did for Thanksgiving, the inevitable increase in infections.

However, there does seem to be some good news on the vaccine front, with some front line workers being vaccinated as soon as December 21st. That would make for a pleasant solstice celebration. However, we’re not there yet, we've had an Astrozenica setback, and we have to maintain protocols, like virtual meetings, for the foreseeable future. We have such meetings taking place this week and next. 

On Wednesday, December 2nd, we serve as the Zoom conduit for the Department of City Planning's next pre-certification meeting. It will be the same format as the previous DCP presentation. The difference is that, instead of a public place, the topic will be Gowanus infrastructure improvements. You can join the hundreds already registered here. Unfortunately, at the same time, the Parks Department and & EPA will be giving an update on the Red Hook ball fields. You can register for that here. As I told you last week, I’ll share the information I get from both for you to absorb at your convenience.

On Thursday, December 3rd, we have a crowded agenda for our Landmarks/ Land Use committee meeting. It includes landmark items, a DCP presentation of an update on the proposed zoning text amendment Zoning for Coastal Flood Resiliency, and a ULURP application for a mixed-use site at 300 Huntington Street.Next week, one week from tonight, our Permits & Licenses committee will meet while our General Board meeting is Wednesday, December 9th. 

In other non-board but area related activities, the Gowanus CAG meets tomorrow, Tuesday, December 1st. 

Of Citywide note, one week from today, as announced yesterday, school buildings will be reopening for in-person learning on Monday, December 7th. We trust that will not be a day that will live in infamy.
