For those who don't follow the comings and goings of various city agencies, one may not know that CB6 resident Polly Trottenberg has left the city's Department of Transportation and joined the Biden Administration as the Deputy Secretary of the United States DOT. We're appreciative of her service to the city, and her impact will long benefit the city and will surely benefit the nation in the years ahead. With that, her successor at NYC DOT, Hank Guttman, was introduced today.

We at CB6  wasted no time and sent a letter congratulating him and making sure he’s aware, if he wasn't already, of our insistence that a comprehensive traffic study is done in Red Hook. As the letter states,  As the “development of multiple package-fulfillment centers in Red Hook progresses,” the study should include “analysis of all potential traffic impacts, and options for how best to deal with them.”. The letter also highlights that our concerns are not limited to worries about safety, pollution, and truck traffic, but extend to preserving the neighborhood’s historic character and that cobblestones be maintained wherever possible, and where not, to have them repurposed elsewhere in Red Hook.
