Before anything else, I have to thank the Park Slope Civic Council (PSCC) and its trustees for inviting me to be their guest speaker last night. I look forward once they return to in-person meetings, hopefully in late 2021, to congregate at the Old Stone House house. Still, it is rewarding, even via zoom, to discuss our community and do my best to answer questions among folks who are so civically committed.  

Speaking of commitment, I feel compelled to reiterate the appreciation I expressed last night for their work, alongside CB6 and the community at large, in advocating for the elevator that will be installed at the 7th Avenue F/G stop. Lastly, I want to thank PSCC President Joe Rydell for pulling off the rare feat of nailing the pronunciation of my last name on the first go around.

As daily readers may know, earlier in the week, we wrote to DOT reiterating the need for a comprehensive traffic study for Red Hook. We expect an influx of delivery fulfillment sites, and the truck traffic that will surely follow as night the day. The reasons for pressing the request are the naming of a new DOT Commissioner and the advancement of Amazon’s Red Hook plans.

As with ULURPs there are legal questions surrounding virtual voting Amazon asked the National Labor Relations Board to mandate that the vote to certify the union only take place in person. Amazon’s request was denied in a two sentence order. For those who support unionization, this is surely welcome news as we head into the weekend.
