I hope this email finds you well after a weekend that included a, for some, romantic Valentine’s Day on Sunday and a, also for some, patriotic Presidents Day on Monday.

This week, in CB6’s direct orbit, as we await the resolution of litigation and public schools are out for mid-winter recess, things are likely to be relatively quiet. Next week, however, we'll hold 2 CB6 committee meetings via zoom.

The first of those is an EWCDH committee meeting, a week from yesterday, Monday, Feb 22nd, at 6:30 PM. revolves around a discussion with Congresswoman Velasquez’s office about the Public Housing Emergency Response Act. Three nights later, on Thursday, Feb 25th, our Landmarks/ Land Use Committee will meet and review an application to the Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA) for the construction of a 14 story mixed-use (residential and commercial with light manufacturing) building at 145 Wolcott Street in Red Hook. There’s been some coverage of this proposal, and our upcoming meeting, in publications such as the Brooklyn Paper. You can register for EWCDH here and Land Use here. 

Keeping the focus on Red Hook, on Friday, Bklyner published an article about Amazon’s lease signing and our request for a traffic study. Based on some misconceptions and questions I’ve received, it’s important to clarify that Amazon is operating within the parameters of the existing zoning a/k/a “as of right,” which means they don’t need a variance. We are neither approving or disapproving these pending developments (Amazon, UPS, TBD). What we are asking for boils down to getting a look at traffic impacts so that we can best plan and advocate as a community.
