CB6- Wednesday , April 28, 2021

Good Afternoon,

I hope this email finds you well on this warm Wednesday. I’ll be brief with some more canal content.

Last night at the Gowanus CAG meeting, after many shared their memories of Linda Mariano , the EPA reported that 35 thousand cubic yards of sediment have been dredged and phase 1 and 2 of the dredging is complete. The EPA and NYC will be meeting to determine a new Universal Administrative Order (UA0) that would lay out what the City must do to support the canal’s cleanup. The City may still face penalties for missing deadlines outlined in previous Gowanus-related UAO’s. However, you can find out more by watching a recording of the meeting here .

I’d again recommend reading the Gowanus rezoning Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS ) for more canal content. Also, it's very important that we, as a community, are as informed as possible, so it’s very much appreciated that other people and organizations have shared the DEIS and highlighted various portions. So big thanks to the Gowanus Alliance , the Gowanus Dredgers , Gowanus Current , Gowanus Canal Conservancy , the Gowanus Neighborhood Coalition for Justice , and anyone else that I may have missed.

On that note, I’ll stop, remind you to get vaccinated, check out the items below, don’t forget that Alternate Side Parking is suspended tomorrow and Friday, and enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.

P.S Please forgive any typos or brain freezes in the text as I get these updates out in haste at the end of the day, and if there is a community-centric item you think I should know about   please reach out.
