Last night was our June full general board meeting. We approved everything on the agenda and heard from elected officials, their representatives, as well as members of our community.

Last night was our June full general board meeting. We approved everything on the agenda and heard from elected officials, their representatives, as well as members of our community. 

As far as approvals, we first reviewed 3 liquor license applications followed by two landmark applications. After that, we went into the much anticipated “main event,” the Gowanus Rezoning. Following the conditional approval at last week's land use committee meeting, the full board voted by a margin of 26 votes in favor and 6 opposed, with 2 abstaining to approve the Rezoning. I admire our board members for thoughtfully crafting the nearly 14 pages of insightful community-enhancing conditions that our councilman stated would serve as a road map as the process moves forward.

Some highlights of the conditions are fully-funded NYCHA capital improvement, EPA review of all environmental issues, community oversight, and expansion of the Industrial Business Zone.  You can read about it in Bklyner, Patch, and The Brooklyn Paper. Now it’s off to the Borough President for a June 30th hearing and further comment.

Tonight, Thursday, June 24, we’ve got more Gowanus on the docket at another Landmarks/Land Use meeting with two ULURP items on the agenda. One is for the demapping for a Gowanus CSO tank and the other to rezone a part of an M2-1 district to a C4-4A district along Third Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets.
